Today, after many days, something happened.
Everyone had already left the house, and I was stepping out for some work. After closing the gate, I walked to my car and sat down.
Almost instinctively, I looked back toward the house.
For a moment, it hit me…
Mummy isn’t here anymore.
Otherwise, she would have been standing at the gate, smiling, raising her hand, and waving goodbye until I disappeared from her sight.
That was her ritual.
No matter how old I grew, she never stopped seeing me off.
I stood there for a second, caught between memory and reality.
Then, in the very next moment, I saw my father standing at the gate.
For the first time…
He was there to wave goodbye to me.
My eyes filled with tears.
It wasn’t only because Mummy wasn’t there.
It was also because, without saying a word, Papa had quietly stepped into the place where she always stood.
In that silent gesture, I saw his love, his loneliness, and perhaps his own way of carrying the emptiness she left behind.
Grief doesn’t only change the person we lose.
It changes the people who stay.
A mother’s place can never be taken. But a father’s love has its own quiet way of holding you together.
A Thought Unfolded
Sometimes, healing doesn’t arrive with words. It arrives with someone quietly standing where your heart expected another.
